Editorial independence is central to our mission of providing honest, balanced and ethical journalism. We do not participate in or accept any support for lobbying activities. We do not accept any funds earmarked for advocacy. All editorial decisions are made exclusively by editors, with no direction from donors. A donation does not provide for any specific reporting, editorial review, or preview of unpublished stories.
We are supported primarily by the generosity of thousands of individuals, corporations and foundations. We take the stewardship of donations very seriously. We value every single dollar we bring in and Neil Patel, our Chairman and Cofounder personally makes sure we put it to the best use possible, like hiring talented staff and not camera ready office furniture. Although 88% is received as general support, some funds are earmarked for the five following programs:
- Journalist Fellowship Training Program (American Journalism Institute)
- Video News Program
- Investigative Group
- Policy Reporting
- Commentary: Big Tent Ideas
